Profile of Homeland Solidarity

Background Vision Mission Programmes Organization

What is Homeland Solidarity?

Homeland Solidarity (in Indonesia named: Solidaritas Nusa Bangsa) is a Non Government Organization which hold a vision to realize a democratic Indonesian's society, respecting on brotherhood value and equality in pluralism.

Background

The 27th Article of the 1945 Constitution Republic of Indonesia states that every citizen is equal before the law. It is clear that the equality of rights of the whole society is ensured by the Constitution. This Constitution is a direct product of the history of struggle for Indonesian independent, thus taught the people to honor and long for equality of all human beings.

However, this is not always the practice. Ever since the proclamation of independence itself, we’ve seen many riots, plundering, arsons, killings, rapping’s, etc, towards a particular section of the society. This happens as personal or mass attacks. Even stranger, these riots usually happen when there are frictions or crises among political elites. As a result, the guarantee for security and welfare of a certain section of the society is void. In a sequential way, this leads to endangering the unity of the whole nation. The impact is not only political but also economical, socio-cultural, and ethical. The national objective of “protecting the whole nation and state of Indonesia” has become lifeless text of the preamble of the Constitution.

The statements above can be easily understood when we take notice of recent riots. When we look at them quite carefully, we will see that those arsons, lootings, killings, and rapping’s of the Chinese ethnic of Indonesian citizenship are not a mere spontaneous incidents. Evidence would show up that they were some how organized to certain degree.

As a principle, this savageness, regardless of the motive or the targets or the modus operand, are against law and humanity. On the other side, this only discloses the weakness of the society governance runs by the present authority. The inability of the present government to give assurance of protection towards the citizens and its neglect that cause loss of many lives are against the direct order of the Constitution. Therefore we can legibly question the legitimization of the whole regime.

Considering the whole situation, it’s only a matter of logic that the State cq. The government is fully and wholly responsible for what has happened. Therefore the chance for the people demand the government’s accountability for all the responsibility imposed within the rights to govern and run the country. In addition, we, people whose concern and conscience cannot allow such violation of human rights, gather under the organization Solidaritas Nusa Bangsa and dare ourselves to stand up against such violation.

We know for all that worth it that this is not going to be something easy. The tangled and bungled racial sentiment that was built under the Dutch occupation has been nourished ever since. However, we also realize that someone has to start somewhere. Somehow. This strengthened us to keep going, to be there to speak up against racial discrimination everywhere, towards or by anyone or any groups.
